WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (July 2, 2018)-- A bake sale and fundraiser by the City of West Palm Beach Department of Public Utilities generated $1424 in donations for the Broward Education Foundation’s Stoneman Douglas Victims’ Fund to provide relief and financial support to the victims of the horrific shooting which killed 17 students and faculty at Stoneman Douglas in February. On Friday, June 29, 2018, City employees volunteering on their lunch breaks sold fresh, baked goods, commemorative pins and other items for donation in the City Hall courtyard. The City thanks our many generous residents and members of the public who turned out in support of the bake sale.

“I wanted to do something to help and to let them know that we care,” said Water Distribution Technician Michael Chavers who developed the idea of the fundraiser. “We’re all people and we’re all the same.” Chavers also designed hats and shirts to honor the victims and show solidarity with the school and Parkland community.

“I am very proud of the Department of Public Utilities,” said Dr. Poonam Kalkat, City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Director. “The Utilities Department has many good technicians, and to do something like this proves that they also have good hearts.
The donations generated by the City of West Palm Beach Bake Sale will be distributed to eligible beneficiaries in July. For more information about the fund, please visit: http://browardedfoundation.org/stonemandouglasvictimsfund/
